1
Access the Hikvision web interface
Open a browser and go to your NVR's IP address (e.g. http://192.168.1.64). Log in with admin credentials. Internet Explorer or the iVMS-4200 client may be required for older firmware.
Newer Hikvision firmware supports Chrome/Firefox without plugins. If prompted, install the web plugin.
2
Go to Network → DDNS settings
Navigate to: Configuration → Network → Basic Settings → DDNS
3
Enable DDNS and select provider
Configure the DDNS settings: • Enable DDNS: ✓ • DDNS Type: NO-IP (uses the same protocol as GreatDDNS) • Server Address: greatddns.com • Domain: your-hostname.greatddns.com • Username: your GreatDDNS username • Password: your GreatDDNS password
Hikvision does not have a "Custom" DDNS option — select NO-IP as it uses the same DynDNS-compatible HTTP update protocol.
4
Click Test to verify connectivity
After filling in the settings, click the "Test" button. You should see a success message. Then click Save.
If the test fails, check that your NVR's DNS server is set correctly (Configuration → Network → TCP/IP) and that the NVR can reach the internet.
5
Verify on your GreatDDNS dashboard
Return to your GreatDDNS dashboard. Your device should show a green Online status within a few minutes. The IP address should match your current WAN IP.
6
Configure port forwarding
Forward the following ports on your router to your Hikvision NVR's local IP: • HTTP: 80 (or 8080) • HTTPS: 443 • Server port: 8000 (Hikvision SDK port) • RTSP: 554
The server port 8000 is required for iVMS-4200 and Hik-Connect remote access.
