Terms of Service
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using GreatDDNS ("Service", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using GreatDDNS, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age, have the legal authority to enter into these Terms, and agree to be bound by them. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you agree to these Terms on behalf of that organization.
2. Description of Service
GreatDDNS provides a free Dynamic DNS (DDNS) service that allows users to associate a hostname under one of our supported domains with a dynamic IP address. The Service includes:
- Registration of subdomains under greatddns.com, nvrddns.ca, firewallddns.ca, and onlineddns.com/li>
- Automated DNS record updates via check-in API
- Optional uptime monitoring with email notifications
- A user dashboard for device management
3. Account Registration
To use the Service, you must register for an account with a valid email address. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete registration information
- Verify your email address as required during signup
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
- Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account
We reserve the right to refuse registration or cancel accounts at our discretion.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not use GreatDDNS to:
- Host or distribute malware, ransomware, viruses, or any malicious code
- Operate phishing sites, spam infrastructure, or fraudulent services
- Conduct distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks or port scanning
- Facilitate illegal access to systems, networks, or private data
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
- Infringe on intellectual property rights of any third party
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service
- Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair it
5. Hostname Policy
Hostnames across all supported domains (greatddns.com, nvrddns.ca, firewallddns.ca, and onlineddns.com) are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to reclaim any hostname that:
- Has not been used for more than 90 consecutive days
- Is being used in violation of these Terms
- Constitutes a trademark, brand name, or reserved term we determine should not be allocated
- Has been requested by a legitimate rights holder through an abuse report
One account may register up to 10 hostnames at no charge. Additional hostnames may be made available in the future.
6. Service Availability
We strive to maintain high availability of the Service but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may perform maintenance, upgrades, or emergency changes that temporarily affect availability. We will endeavour to provide advance notice of planned outages where possible.
7. Privacy and Data
By using the Service, you acknowledge that we collect and store:
- Your username and email address
- IP addresses submitted during device check-ins
- Check-in timestamps and event logs
- Device names and hostnames you register
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. IP address and check-in data is used solely to operate the DNS service and the optional monitoring feature. We may retain logs for up to 90 days for abuse prevention purposes.
8. Monitoring Feature
The optional uptime monitoring feature sends email alerts when a device stops checking in. By enabling this feature, you consent to receiving alert and recovery emails at the address associated with your account or the alternate address you specify. You may disable monitoring at any time from your device settings.
9. Intellectual Property
The GreatDDNS name, logo, website design, and underlying software are the intellectual property of their respective owners. Your use of the Service does not grant you any ownership interest in these materials. You retain ownership of any content or configuration you create.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GREATDDNS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
12. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon deletion, all associated devices and DNS records will be removed. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account immediately and without notice if we determine you have violated these Terms. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive.
13. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.
